چکیده

Abstract Introduction For the first time, we comprehensively investigated effects of repeated exposures to baseline (BL), total sleep deprivation (TSD), and recovery (REC) phases at 2, 4, 8 months on cardiovascular (CV) measures. Methods We conducted a five-day experiment twice (at 2 4) in 4-month study (N=6 healthy adults; 3 females), similar three times 8) an 8-month (N=5 females). During these experiments, CV measures were collected via echocardiography or blood pressure monitor [systolic diastolic (SBP DBP)] assessment time points: 1) after two 8h bed (TIB) nights (BL); 2) night (TSD); 3) 8-10h TIB (REC). also once pre post study. Seated stroke volume (SV), cardiac index (CI), left ventricular ejection (LVET), SBP DBP, systemic vascular resistance (SVRI), mean arterial (MAP) collected. Data did not significantly differ between studies therefore pooled together for analysis (N=11). Repeated ANOVA post-hoc comparisons corrected multiple testing examined across all points. Results SV, CI, SVRI, LVET, SBP, but DBP MAP, showed significant changes time. SV increased with TSD compared pre-study, BL, post-study month 2. CI REC, SVRI decreased REC LVET BL In sample subset, 8. Conclusion Notably, 8, indicating sustained adverse effect long-duration exposure TSD. Overall, are reliable biomarkers assessing harmful long-term Support (if any) NASA grants NNX14AN49G 80NSSC20K0243 (NG)

Individual differences in physiologic measures are stable across repeated exposures to total sleep deprivation

Some individuals show severe cognitive impairment when sleep deprived, whereas others are able to maintain a high level of performance. Such differences are stable and trait-like, but it is not clear whether these findings generalize to physiologic responses to sleep loss. Here, we analyzed individual differences in behavioral and physiologic measures in healthy ethnic-Chinese male volunteers (...

Total sleep deprivation alters cardiovascular reactivity to acute stressors in humans.

Exaggerated cardiovascular reactivity to mental stress (MS) and cold pressor test (CPT) has been linked to increased risk of cardiovascular disease. Recent epidemiological studies identify sleep deprivation as an important risk factor for hypertension, yet the relations between sleep deprivation and cardiovascular reactivity remain equivocal. We hypothesized that 24-h total sleep deprivation (T...

Sleep deprivation in the rat: III. Total sleep deprivation.

Ten rats were subjected to total sleep deprivation (TSD) by the disk apparatus. All TSD rats died or were sacrificed when death seemed imminent within 11-32 days. No anatomical cause of death was identified. All TSD rats showed a debilitated appearance, lesions on their tails and paws, and weight loss in spite of increased food intake. Their yoked control (TSC) rats remained healthy. Since dehy...

Acute total sleep deprivation potentiates cocaine-induced hyperlocomotion in mice

Sleep deprivation is common place in modern society. Nowadays, people tend to self-impose less sleep in order to achieve professional or social goals. In the social context, late-night parties are frequently associated with higher availability of recreational drugs with abuse potential. Physiologically, all of these drugs induce an increase in dopamine release in the mesolimbic dopaminergic sys...

Sleep deprivation, sleep apnea and cardiovascular diseases.

Sleep dramatically influences cardiovascular regulation. Changes in sleep duration or quality as seen in sleep disorders may prevent blood pressure to fall during sleep as expected in human physiology. This supports the increased prevalence of hypertension and drug-resistant hypertension in those with sleep loss. Other cardiovascular outcomes i.e. coronary lesions seem to be associated with sle...
